SAFETY FIRST

CHILD SAFETY

Making the best possible match between a Little and a Big is crucial for a child's growth and development. Before we begin this important process, we ensure that every potential Big undergoes a thorough screening.

In alignment with Big Brothers Big Sisters National Standards of Excellence, each volunteer must complete an extensive screening process that includes:

  • Submitting a formal written application
  • Undergoing background and reference checks
  • Participating in an in-person interview
  • Completing orientation and training that addresses your child’s unique needs and offers resources to support their development

To further ensure safety, we provide child safety tips to both you and your child, and we encourage open communication and feedback. Throughout the life of the Match, our professional staff will maintain ongoing communication with you, your child, and your child's Big. This consistent support is key to building a strong relationship that will make a lasting, positive impact on your child’s future success.

Expectations for Caregivers

You know what’s best for your child, so we’ll need your help from the start, providing information about your child’s strengths and needs, and ultimately approving the Big Brother or Big Sister match. But your role doesn’t end there.
